Stell dir vor, es ist 2045 und wir sind klimaneutral
Du bezahlst nichts mehr für Strom, weil du ihn selbst erzeugst. Am Flughafen wird Wasserstoff produziert, Flugzeuge starten klimafreundlich in die Luft, sodass du Urlaub machst und dabei nichts kompensierst, weil dieser emissionsfrei ist.
Was wie Zukunft klingt, ist machbar.

Der Weg dorthin beginnt heute. Die Forschung kennt die Zusammenhänge, die Technologien sind da, und innovative Unternehmen zeigen, dass sich Klimaschutz rechnet.
Deutschland hat seit den 1990er-Jahren mehr als 40 % seiner jährlichen Emissionen eingespart und emittiert jetzt nur noch etwa die Hälfte dessen, was früher ausgestoßen wurde. Entdecke, welche Hebel zählen. Und welche Zukunft möglich ist.
Imagine it’s 2045 and we’re climate-neutral.
You no longer pay for electricity because you generate it yourself, hydrogen is produced directly at the airport, and the planes themselves take flight in a climate-friendly manner, allowing you to go onholiday without paying to offset anything – because commercial aviation is now emission-free.
What sounds like some fantastic vision for the future is a possibility that is actually within reach.
And all of this will have an impact even in the coldest and most remote places on Earth: everytonne of CO2 that we prevent from being released into the atmosphere saves around three square metres of Arctic polar ice. The journey begins today. Researchers understand the connections between seemingly isolated events, the technologies and engineering solutions are available, and innovative companies are demonstrating that actions to protect the climate truly pay for themselves over time.

After more than ten years in the IT industry and as the founder of several start-ups, he now focuses on how technological, social, and economic trends are shaping our future. As the former managing director of the Zukunftsinstitut Austria and the developer of the Trend Canvas, he helps companies spot emerging changes at an early stage and leverage them strategically.

Claudia Kemfert ist Wirtschaftswissenschaftlerin und Expertin für Energie-, Klima- und Umweltpolitik: Sie leitet seit 2004 die Abteilung „Energie, Verkehr, Umwelt“ am Deutschen Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (DIW) und ist Professorin für Energiewirtschaft und Energiepolitik an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg.
Ihr Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt auf den ökonomischen Folgen der Energiewende, Klimaschutzmaßnahmen und dem Umbau von Energiesystemen – sie berät Politik und Institutionen auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene. Darüber hinaus moderiert sie den „Klima-Kompass mit Claudia Kemfert“ – einen Podcast, in dem sie alle zwei Wochen fundierte Analysen zu Energie, Klima und Politik kompakt und verständlich einordnet.
Energy & CO2
Claudia Kemfert is an economist and expert in energy, climate and environmental policy. She has headed the Department of Energy, Transportation andEnvironment at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) since 2004 and is also a professor of energy economics and energy policy at Leuphana University Lüneburg.
Her research focuses on the economic consequences of the energy transition, action taken to protect the environment and how energy systems can be restructured. She advises policymakers and institutions on the national and international level. She also hosts “Klima-Kompass mit Claudia Kemfert” (“Climate Compass with Claudia Kemfert”), a podcast in which she provides concise and understandable analyses of energy, climate and policy every two weeks.
Landwirtschaft & Ernährung
Frank Hollemann hat gemeinsam mit Mareike Brühl Fork Ranger gegründet. Beide erkannten: Ein Drittel aller Treibhausgase entsteht durch unsere Ernährung. Hier liegt ein wichtiger Hebel für den Klimaschutz.

Protecting the climate in your everyday digital life is both easy and free!
Here are a few practical examples that you can integrate into your day-to-day digital routine:
The search engine Ecosia plants trees with the money it earns from advertising revenue. Install it directly in your browser.
The search engine GiveWater works in a similar way. It uses the revenue from paid advertisements to fund access to clean drinking water.
Another tool is Tab for a Cause. In this case, donations for various aid projects, including ocean conservation, are automatically generated when new tabs are opened.
Innovative Start-ups, die verändern
Was als Idee beginnt, kann schnell unsere Zukunft neu gestalten. Es gibt schon heute viele tolle Beispiele für innovative Start-ups, die Klimaschutz als oberstes Ziel setzen. Hier findest du ein paar Beispiele:
Bracenet befreien mit ihren Partnern Riffe und Schiffswracks von verloren gegangenen oder absichtlich versenkten Fischernetzen. Sie holen die sogenannten Geisternetze aus den Meeren oder fangen sie vorher ab, reinigen sie und verarbeiten sie zu neuen Produkten.
Innovative start-ups that are changing things
What starts as a mere idea can quickly reshape our future. There are already many great examples of innovative start-ups that have made climate protection their top priority, and here are a few examples:
Urban energy production:
There are now around one million “balcony power plants” in Germany! In addition to mini-photovoltaic systems, there are modular wind energy systems (such as by Airiva) that generate power in urban areas. This electricity can then be used directly on site, stored or fed into the grid.
Reusable instead of disposable:
Returning materials to the resource cycle that would have ended up in the trash is also a great way to protect our environment. The start-up Kaffeeform, for example, converts recycled and bio-based resources into new everyday objects. Or have you heard of the start-up Notpla.? They produce recyclable packaging from algae and have already replaced more than 21 million items of plastic packaging.
From the oceans:
Bracenet and its partners clear reefs and shipwrecks of lost or deliberately sunk fishing nets. They retrieve these “ghost nets” from the ocean floor or intercept them before they meet this fate, clean them, and process them into new products.
